`Waste’ commonly (still) has a negative connotation. The general method currently practiced in Indonesia in municipal solid waste (MSW) all over Indonesia is collect-transport-dispose. But the capacity of our landfills are not enough to accomodate all the waste that has been disposed. Paradigm shift needed, from waste management based mostly on disposal of all municipal solid waste fractions, to materials recovery, recycling, waste to energy, and other sustainable options.
“Good waste management system will not succeed without mindset behavior change of people who are aware of hygiene. If Singapore took 40 years to be clean disciplined and Japan need 100 years to establish a culture of clean, what about Indonesia?”
